Parking tickets in Cambridge: how to pay, dispute and what they cost

Cambridge handles parking tickets through its own Administrative Penalty System, not the courts. You have 15 days to pay or ask for a screening review, and an unpaid ticket picks up fees after 30 days and can block your plate renewal after 75.

Disputing a ticket

  • Ask for a screening review online within 15 days of the ticket. Have the ticket number, issue date and plate ready.[4] Official page
  • A Screening Officer handles it by phone or email between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and can cancel, confirm or reduce the penalty, or give you more time to pay.[1]
  • Paying first ends your right to a screening, unless the ticket has an error on its face.[3]
  • Missed the deadline? You can ask for an extension of up to 30 days after the due date. Missing a booked screening adds a $25 fee.[3]
  • You can appeal a screening decision to an independent Hearing Officer within 30 days. Hearings are virtual and monthly; missing one adds $50, and the decision is final.[5]
  • Questions: 519-623-1340 or tickets@cambridge.ca.[1]

What tickets cost

  • Overnight in the January–March winter ban: $45. Overnight in a core area: $35.[3]
  • During a snow event: $80.[3]
  • Over the time limit, or re-parking: $35. Within 1 m of a driveway or 9 m of an intersection: $35.[3]
  • Within 3 m of a fire hydrant or in a fire route: $100.[3]
  • Accessible space without a permit: $400.[3]
  • In a City lot without paying, past the time limit or overnight Monday to Thursday: $35.[3]

Late fees and towing

  • Payment is due within 15 days. A ticket left on the car counts as served when it was placed; a mailed one, five days after mailing.[3]
  • Not paid within 30 days: a $12 MTO search fee and a $25 late fee are added.[3]
  • Still unpaid 75 days after it was due: the City can have your plate renewal denied (plus a $25 fee), add it to your tax bill or send it to collections.[1]
  • Cars breaking the traffic and parking by-law can be towed and stored; the owner pays all removal and storage costs.[3]
