Overnight parking in Cambridge, Ontario

In most of Cambridge you can park on the street overnight for most of the year. The exceptions are the winter ban from January 1 to March 15, the downtown cores of Galt, Preston and Hespeler and regional roads, where the 2:30–6 a.m. ban applies all year, and declared snow events.

The overnight rules

  • From January 1 to March 15, no parking on any City street from 2:30 to 6 a.m.[1]
  • All year, no street parking from 2:30 to 6 a.m. in downtown Galt, the Preston and Hespeler cores, and on regional roads.[1]
  • During the day, City residential streets allow up to 5 hours in a row unless signed (a temporary rule since June 3, 2026; not on Region roads).[2]
  • City lots have their own late-night limits unless you hold a residential or 24-hour permit; check the lot’s signs.[7]
  • City parks are closed to parking from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.[7]
  • Fines: $45 for the winter overnight ban, $35 for overnight in a core area or a City lot, $80 during a snow event.[7]

Free options

  • Each core (Galt, Preston, Hespeler) has 12-hour free lots, meant as a low-cost option for core workers.[3]
  • Core-area streets give 2 hours free; the streets around the cores allow longer.[1]

Snow events and towing

  • The City declares a snow event when more than 8 cm of snow is forecast or roads are icy. No street parking at any time while it lasts, usually 24 hours.[6]
  • A snow event cancels every exemption issued before it.[6]
  • Cars in the way of snow clearing can be ticketed and towed; the owner pays the towing on top of the $80 fine.[6]
  • Sign up at cambridge.ca/subscribe for an email when a snow event is declared.[6]

No driveway?

If you live in a core, a Residential lot permit ($65–$98 + HST a month) covers overnight parking in your assigned lot. Elsewhere, the reliable option is renting a private driveway by the month; Parkeas hosts in Cambridge can list theirs.[4]
