Parking tickets in Brampton: how to pay, dispute and what they cost

A Brampton parking ticket must be paid or disputed within 15 days of being issued, online, by phone, in person or by mail. The City handles it through its own Administrative Penalty System rather than the courts: a screening review first, then a hearing review. First-offence fines run from $20 for an expired meter to $350 for an accessible space.

Disputing a ticket

  • You have 15 days from the date of the penalty notice to dispute it with an online written Screening Review: say why the ticket or fees should be cancelled or varied, ask for more time to pay if you need it, and attach documents.[2] Official page
  • A screening officer reviews what you submitted and emails the decision. If the online dispute option has disappeared, the window has closed and the next step is payment.[3]
  • Missed the 15 days? Ask for more time to request a screening within 30 days of the notice date, giving a reason; the screening officer decides.[2]
  • If you can’t use the online form, an in-person screening at 5 Ray Lawson Blvd is available as an accommodation: call 3-1-1 (905-874-2000 from outside Brampton) to book. A screening can’t be requested by mail.[3]
  • Disagree with the screening decision? Ask for a Hearing Review within 15 days of receiving it, online or by emailing the request form to APSadmin@brampton.ca. Hearings are virtual or in person, only evidence from the screening is considered, and the decision is final.[2]
  • Missed the 15 days for a hearing? You can ask for more time within 30 days of the decision, with a reason; miss that and you are deemed to have waived the hearing.[2]
  • Miss an in-person screening and the penalty is affirmed with a $60 fee added; miss a hearing and it is affirmed with $100 added. Either way it can no longer be disputed.[3]

Fines and common tickets

  • Brampton parking fines (2026 amounts) rise with repeat offences, shown here as first / second / subsequent.[6]
  • Parking on a street 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., or for more than 3 hours: $65 / $100 / $135.[5]
  • Within 3 m of a fire hydrant, or in front of a driveway: $100 / $200 / $300. In front of a laneway: $30 / $45 / $60.[5]
  • Designated fire route: $150 / $250 / $350. Interfering with snow removal or winter maintenance: $250 / $500 / $750.[5]
  • Accessible space without a permit: $350 flat. Blocking the access aisle: $300 flat. Bicycle lane: $150 flat. EV charging station contrary to the sign: $125 flat.[5]

Plate denial, towing and good to know

  • Ignore a ticket and administrative fees apply, starting with a $30 late payment fee; parking penalties then go to the Ministry of Transportation, which denies plate renewal and new plates.[3]
  • Once a ticket has gone to the Ministry it can no longer be disputed; it must be paid at ServiceOntario, and the City can’t take payment or set up a payment plan.[3]
  • Fees on top of a missed review: $15 to retrieve registered-owner information from the Ministry, $60 for a missed screening, $100 for a missed hearing. None apply if the penalty is cancelled.[3]
  • Parking against the by-law can bring a penalty notice, a tow, or both; a fire route in particular can bring a significant fine and towing.[7]
  • Car towed? The City lists Enforcement and By-law Services at 905-458-3424, Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Peel Regional Police, whose page counts parking violations among reasons for a tow, say only the owner can collect the car: get a release form at the police division with ID, then pay the tow yard. Non-emergency line: 905-453-3311.[9]
  • Brampton has no permit parking on City streets, but a Parking Consideration can lift the 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 3-hour rules for up to 14 days a calendar year per licence plate; it doesn’t cover other violations.[7]
  • Lost the ticket? You can’t search by licence plate online for privacy reasons; call 3-1-1. For the penalty office, call 905-450-4770.[3]
