Disputing a ticket

  • Ask for a review by a screening officer within 30 days of the ticket: call 519-741-2345 or use the online screening request form.[3] Official page
  • Don’t pay a ticket you want reviewed, and send one request per ticket. The decision comes by email or mail.[4]
  • Between 30 and 60 days after the ticket, the screening officer decides whether to review it at all.[1]
  • Can’t deal with it within 30 days? You can ask for an extension, granted only for extenuating circumstances.[1]
  • Disagree with the screening decision? Ask for a review by a hearing officer; the request must arrive by the due date on the screening decision.[5]
  • Hearing officers are independent contractors who hear Kitchener and Waterloo cases. Hearings are monthly and the decision is final.[1]
  • Missing your hearing adds a $50 fee. Someone else can act for you with the City’s “Authorization to act as an agent” form.[5]

Fines and common tickets

  • Kitchener parking fines range from $30 to $400. The amount for your offence is on the ticket.[6]
  • Parking on a street during a snow event is $100, according to the City’s 2025–26 snow event notices.[7]
  • Common tickets: more than 3 hours on a street, within 3 m of a fire hydrant or 1.5 m of a driveway, on a sidewalk, facing against traffic, in a fire route, or in an accessible space without a permit.[6]
  • Parking on a street from 2:30 to 6 a.m. between December 1 and March 31 without an exemption.[8]
  • Camera enforcement vehicles scan licence plates to enforce time limits.[6]

Towing and good to know

  • A car parked against the parking bylaws may be towed at the owner’s expense.[6]
  • During a snow event, a car can be towed if a snowplow can’t get down the street.[9]
  • If your car was towed, call 519-741-2345 to find out where it is.[8]
  • Since AMPS, disputes are handled by City staff and hearing officers instead of the provincial courts.[10]
  • Questions: 519-741-2345 or info@kitchener.ca.[2]
