Quebec City winter parking: when you can’t park on the street overnight
In Quebec City you can’t park on the street during a snow-removal operation between November 1 and April 15, and orange flashing lights show when a ban is on. On streets with lights, the ban runs from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. A resident vignette lets you park longer than the posted limit. The general parking fine is $60, plus costs.

The snow-removal parking rules
- From November 1 to April 15, street parking is banned across the city during snow-removal operations. Keeping track of operations is up to you.[1]
- Where an orange light flashes, parking is banned. Light off: parking is allowed. Programmed light: parking is allowed for now but is probably banned from 9 or 10 p.m., depending on the sign. If the map and the light on the street disagree, the light on the street counts.[2]
- Under the City’s traffic by-law, an operation between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. bans parking from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and an operation between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. bans it for that whole period. On streets with flashing lights, the ban runs from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and from midnight on certain streets listed in the by-law.[7]
- Bans must be shown by signs with a phone number. Information has to be available at least 12 hours ahead for a daytime operation and 4 hours ahead for a night one, and the lights go on at least 2 hours before a daytime ban and 4 hours before a night ban.[8]
- The general parking fine in the traffic by-law is $60, and costs are added (2026 version of the by-law).[7]
- Parking within 1.5 m of a fire hydrant is prohibited.[7]
- Street spaces are paid every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. unless signs say otherwise, at $3.50 per 60 minutes. Payment is tied to your plate, by Copilote+ app or at a payment station.[11]
How to know if you can park tonight
- Open the City’s flashing-lights map to see whether the light on your street is on, off or programmed.[2] Official page
- Call Info-Déneigement at 418 641-6666. The information is updated twice a day, at 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.[1]
- Subscribe to the City’s email or SMS alerts for planned snow-removal operations. Standard message fees may apply.[1]
- Read the signs on your street: they carry a phone number for information on the ban.[8]
- If you must park on the street where parking is allowed, use one side only and avoid parking face to face with another car.[13]
Towing and tickets
- Towing or moving a car parked in breach of a snow-removal, road-maintenance, special-event or spring or fall cleaning ban is a fixed $112. Ticket costs are added.[9]
- Storage for a car towed from an arterial street or road is $23 a day.[9]
- To find a towed car, enter your plate on the City’s Info-Remorquage page (it can take up to two hours to appear) or call 311 with your plate number.[10]
- A parking ticket served less than 30 days ago can be paid online; after 30 days with no plea or payment, a default judgment can follow without further notice.[14]
